Religious, Political, and Economic History
- Political History: Revolved heavily around a single figure, in this case a pharaoh. The followers believed him to be a living god. This granted the pharaoh unlimited power and control over everything. It is now considered to have been a theocracy. Under the pharaoh were viziers, army commanders, chief treasurers, minister of public works, and tax collectors. All of which answered directly to pharaoh. The government only changed when Egypt was invaded or government was overthrown.
- Current Political System: Under rule of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
- Imperial Ruling: (1882-1956) Egypt was under British rule. Withdrew accordance with Anglo-Egyptian Agreement of 1954. During WWII, British troops used Egypt as a army base. Troops were moved to Suez Canal in 1947, but nationalist's/ Non-British feelings continued to grow after war. The Egyptian Revolution of 1952 overthrew the Egyptian Monarchy and eliminated British military presence. Leading to the establishment of the modern day Republic of Egypt.
- Nationalism: The Arab Spring in 2011 forcing resignation of Mubarak from power and resulting in a multiparty elections. Raising questions over future of Egypt nationalism.
- Capital City: Cairo, but previously there was about 27 capital cities.
- Major Resources: Mineral and Energy resources include petroleum, natural gas, phosphates, gold and iron ore.
- Economic System: Nile Delta is where most economic activity takes place. Last 30 years government has reformed the highly centralized economy it previously had.
- Exports: Petroleum (crude and gas), gold, wire, citrus, cheese, iron, alcohols, aluminum, glazed ceramics, fertilizers, and etc.
